I recently came across a saying during a webinar hosted by Deborah Ros\u00e9n<\/a> and Simon Tsolakidis<\/a> of H\u0430iley HR on October 30: \u201cMany small strings make a great river.\u201d<\/strong> It struck a chord. In the context of HR automation, this metaphor beautifully captures how incremental efficiencies can lead to transformative impact.<\/p>

The webinar offered an insightful introduction to the Hailey HR automation system, prompting me to reflect more broadly on the role of automation in HR today. Although I\u2019m not an HR tech specialist, I approach platforms like Hailey with an objective lens.<\/p>

\u2699\ufe0f Why HR Automation Matters?<\/strong><\/p>

In our era of rapid technological advancement and AI integration, HR automation is no longer a novelty\u2014it\u2019s a necessity. Automating repetitive tasks not only enhances HR efficiency but also improves the experience for employees and candidates alike. It\u2019s about consistency, clarity, and freeing up time for strategic work.<\/p>

Yet many organizations face a dilemma: Which HR platform is the right fit?<\/p>

As Josh Bersin aptly puts it, \u201cCompanies are throwing money at HR tools right now\u2026 as they search for ways to transform their workforces, make people more productive, and improve quality of hire, skills development, and employee engagement and retention.\u201d<\/p>

\ud83d\udcb8 The C-Suite Conundrum<\/strong><\/p>

While HR teams often champion automation, CEOs tend to focus on cost reduction and ROI. Even with clear criteria and budgets, decisions can be swayed by peer influence\u2014\u201cIf Company X uses this platform, maybe we should too.\u201d<\/p>

But fiscal prudence must be balanced with strategic foresight. Some reports suggest companies operate with up to 11 core HR systems, spanning recruitment, learning, payroll, and more. The cost per employee can quickly become unsustainable.<\/p>

To ensure meaningful ROI, Bersin recommends:<\/p>

  1. Clarify the problems you want to solve upfront<\/li>
  2. Focus on the employee experience\u2014including the C-Suite<\/li>
  3. Partner closely with IT and senior business leaders<\/li>
  4. Establish a senior governance team to oversee HR tech strategy<\/li><\/ol>

    \ud83e\udded What the Hailey Report Reveals<\/strong><\/p>

    The Hailey\u2019s recent report, based on a survey of 200 Swedish companies, highlights key pain points:<\/p>

    • 31%<\/strong> want to focus on strategic work\u2014translating business goals into people strategies<\/li>
    • 25%<\/strong> prioritize competencies\u2014developing leaders and retaining talent<\/li>
    • 48%<\/strong> cite lack of time as a barrier to HR impact<\/li>
    • 33%<\/strong> identify HR admin as the biggest timewaster<\/li><\/ul>

      Automation, then, isn\u2019t just a tool\u2014it\u2019s a gateway to strategic transformation. The time freed thanks to automation can be used for communication, implementation and follow-up. As Simon Tsolakidis of Hailey HR noted during the webinar: We can have beautiful processes, but if we don\u2019t have time to follow up on them, it doesn\u2019t matter.\u201d<\/p>

      Deborah Rosen added that automation enables HR to focus on engagement, talent attraction, and retention<\/strong>\u2014the pillars of a thriving workforce.<\/p>
